Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Officers reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.

Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior political figure said the attack rendered him without words and had to be addressed quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
